Lighting of the Christmas Tree
We were delighted to launch the Festive Season with Laurieton’s first ever Lighting of the Christmas Tree community picnic on Sunday 1st December at Laurie Memorial Park.
The event was attended by more than 150 people who enjoyed a relaxing evening, kicking back to the Christmas tunes of the the Camden Haven Concert Band, free face painting for the kids and of course, a visit from Santa!
The official tree lighting ceremony was opened with a beautiful Welcome to Country by Birpai elder Uncle Bill O’Brien and a Welcome from our wonderful Mayor Peta Pinson. At sunset, the cheerful countdown began, and Uncle Bill and the Mayor lit the Christmas Tree with their magic fairy wands.
It has been a very rewarding experience for the Chamber committee to lead and coordinate this event with a diverse range of stakeholders to finally light the tree and feel the community’s delight at the event. We’ve received a lot of positive feedback about the event and we look forward to hitting the ground running next year to make the event even bigger and better!
Thank you to our sponsors and supporters!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Major Sponsor of this event Mid Coast Cranes who helped put the lights on the mammoth 30-metre-tall tree!
Thank you to Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and Pycon Homes who also contributed to the funding of this event through their generous community grants programs.
